Guided Zoo Tour

This 90 minute guided tour will be a great complement to your visit through our Zoo. During your tour you will learn about our animals, their habitats and conservation. Behind the scene options are not included with this tour. Tours are offered at 10:30 a.m. daily.

Animal Encounter


Did you ever wish to be toe to toe with a Giraffe? Want to be kissed by a goat, or give a treat to a parrot? Want to experience part of a Zookeeper’s life? Our Animal Encounters provide guests with a one of a kind experience with a combination of up-close animal encounters, keeper interactions and guided tours of specialized areas. Choose one of the five unique types of adventures that are available.

Giraffe Encounter - Have you ever wondered what it’s like to stand toe to hoof with the world’s tallest mammal? This animal encounter is one of our most popular, and with it, you can come behind the scenes to experience an up close interaction of one of the world’s most gentile giants. Come see them wrap their tongues around leafy greens; while you learn about their natural behaviors and how we care for them daily. This tour is offered, with advanced reservations, every day at 2:00 pm, weather permitting.

Reptile Encounter
- Venture to an area off of the beaten path to meet “Fred” and “Wilma,” our two Aldabra Tortoises. You will get an up close view of one of the largest species of tortoises, which happens to also be one of the world’s longest living animals. After meeting with our resident tortoises. You’ll be able to visit with our American Alligator, Ike. You will have the chance to learn interesting facts from his keeper, and maybe even toss a few gator biscuits into his habitat. This tour is offered, with advanced reservations, Wednesdays through Sundays at 11:30 am.

Howler Encounter
- Come meet our troop of Howler Monkeys that reside here at the Cape May County Park & Zoo. Guests will step beyond the public walk ways, and meet first hand with the primate keeper. You’ll be able to watch the interaction between the keeper and the troop, in addition you will learn interesting facts about the troop. On this tour you will also be able to see their new indoor home, and learn all about these New World Monkeys . This tour must be scheduled at least ten days in advance.

Camel Encounter - Our Zoo’s camel “Marty” is awaiting your arrival. Step into the areas unseen by the public to get an up close look at our camel habitat. His keeper will be on hand to answer any questions you may have, as well as tell some interesting facts about our camel. Come get an up close look at his amazing adaptations. This tour is offered, with advanced reservations, every day at 2:00 pm.

Aviary Encounter – Birds of a feather flock together! Step off the beaten path to meet some of the feathered friends that call the Cape May County Park & Zoo’s their home. You’ll have the opportunity to feed some crunchy bugs to the residents of the Aviary. Your group will also be able to meet our flock of flamingos, as well as some of the colorful parrots.
This tour is offered, with advanced reservations, Sunday through Wednesday at 2:00 pm.

Behind the Scenes Tour

Have you ever wondered how our Zoo feeds its 500 plus animals in our care? This behind the scenes tour offers visitors a view into areas unseen by the public. During this tour you will get to visit the Diet Building, where we prepare all our animals’ daily diets. This tour will also take you behind the scenes at our Reptile House, where you will be able to see what it is like for our keepers to care for over 85 species of reptiles and amphibians. This tour has no direct interaction with any zoo animals, however, you will get to experience a whole new side of the Cape May County Park & Zoo.

Tour Rules and Regulations:



  • All animal encounters must be scheduled at least three days in advance, with the exception of our Howler encounter. The Howler Encounter must be scheduled ten days in advance.
  • Due to the unpredictability of animals, tour experiences may vary. All participants must abide by staff instructions at all times.
  • Each tour has a minimum of 2 people. We can not give a tour for 1 person.
  • For safety reasons, children must be accompanied by an adult. Children must be 5 years or older to join the animal encounter and behind the scene tour.
  • All tours are walking tours. No transportation is provided.
  • Tours are not guaranteed to be private, unless your group fills the maximum capacity.
  • The Cape May County Park & Zoo reserves the right to cancel any tour due to unforeseen circumstances. The Zoo will contact you to reschedule your tour.
  • Tours & Animal Encounters are non-refundable; however, if it becomes necessary to reschedule your tour for another date, you may do so by calling at least 48 hours before the tour without incurring any additional charges. Tours cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice will have 30 days to reschedule. No refunds or rescheduling opportunities will be given for no call/no shows.
  • Other times may be available if scheduled through the Education Department in advance.
  • To insure availability, reserving your tour early is highly recommended.

School Groups

Enhance your school field trip or group visit with an action packed, education filled, guided Zoo Tour from one of our education crew members. If you are coming to visit the Zoo with a group of 15 or more this is an economical way to have one of our experienced Zoo Education curators guide you through. During your tour you will learn interesting facts about the animals under our care here and in the wild as well as fascinating stories about some of our favorite individual animals. With proper advance notice we can fine tune your visit and zoological lesson to your class needs. Activity stops and interactive artifact stations will we set up geared for your age group to further improve your learning experience. There is no behind the scenes option with this tour. An animal encounter with an education animal is available for an additional $20.00 for 15 minutes.
